The Weeknd’s McLaren P1 – Starboy status
The Weeknd owns a deep red McLaren P1 that is cleaner than a regular persons church shoes. It was famously featured in his music video for “Starboy” which solidified his status as a global superstar. He got it as a gift in 2016 after post-Grammy party. It was wrapped with a bow. A thoughtful gesture from his closest friends. The McLaren is not a supercar, it is a hybrid hypercar with only 375 units sold worldwide with around 100 of them in the United States. Part of the holy trinity with Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder. His song Starboy perfectly encapsulate the scale of his success.
“I’m tryna put you in the worst mood, ah
P1 cleaner than your church shoes, ah
Milli point two just to hurt you, ah
All red Lamb’ just to tease you, ah
None of these toys on lease too, ah
Made your whole year in a week too, yah
Main bitch outta your league too, ah
Side bitch outta your league too, ah“
The Weeknd – Starboy
The P1 was produced from 2013 to 2015 by McLaren Automotive, the most well-known British sports car brand. Previously the F1 was their flagship model. The Weeknd’s cars are powerful as well. His McLaren has 903 horsepower and a 3.8 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The power is put down with the help of a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. It also has a battery which is capable of driving only on electric power for 11km/6.8 miles. This makes it perfect to come back home after a night out completely silently – without waking up your neighbourhood. The cost of the car is between 1.8-2.5 million dollars. This is a lot more than the starting price when it was new: ~1 million dollars. This makes the P1 a great investment.
What kind of car did they use in Starboy?

Mercedes-Benz partnership with The Weeknd
The most significant collaboration is between The Weeknd and Mercedes. Abel has been using Benz’s in the music videos and appeared in an advertisement for the new electric suv EQC. It made headlines when it happened a few years back as Abel provided creative direction for the german brand and used his celebrity status to intoduce their new electric EQ car range. This was very effective in targeting the younger demographics, the soon to be car owners.
A convertible Mercedes-AMG GT was used by The Weeknd in Blinding lights music video. A true sports car with a lot of power. It suited the character of Abel perfectly in the video and made it fun to watch as he speeds through the night in an empty city. The headlights of the car were modified to be red which gave the car a sinister look.
The Weeknd also has a Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet 1 of 99. The price for these is around 1.8 million dollars, understandable for an ultra-rare car like this. It boasts a 6 liter V12 engine with twin-turbos making over 600 horsepower.
The Weeknd’s Lamborghini Aventador
Lamborghini is something people buy when they simply want to flex. Especially the Aventador Roadster, it is one of the flashiest supercars out there. The aggressivley sculpted body lines and doors that go up. And The Weeknd’s car is in a bright orange/red color which can’t not be seen.
The SV of The Weeknd is a special model which stands for Superveloce or Super Speed. It features further modifications made to enchance the performance of the car.
Bentley Mulsanne owned by Abel Tesfaye
The Bentley Mulsanne that is in The Weeknd’s car collection is his comfiest. Its like driving your leather couch around town, perfect if you want to relax after a performance or go for a date. He has often been seen driving around at during the night with his friends or girlfriends with this car.
For a big car, the performance figures are suprisingly good. 0 to 60mph takes just 4.8 seconds, considering its weight is around 2.7 tons in kilograms its a pretty quick car. The engine is also big and powerful, a 6.75 liter V8 producing over 500 horsepower.
Porsche 911 – Puma campaing by The Weeknd
For a collab with the shoemaker Puma, The Weeknd chose an old-school Porsche 911 to add flair to the photoshoot. Unclear if he really owns the car, but it certainly fits his aesthetic well. Even the number plates read “Star Boy”.
